Kanchan Chander art works are autobiographical with a strong portrayal of the self. She has been inspired by Frida Kahlo, Amrita Sher-Gil and sculptures from Indian temples. She transforms the classical into contemporary forms with her vibrant colour palette, use of gold leaf, lace, sequins, wood, metal and photographs to create textured mixed media works. Kanchan’s art focuses on feminine energy and mythical feminine figures of power as well as a celebration of the fertile, the erotic and sensuousness of the female form.
