Thota Vaikuntam is well known for painting men and women from his hometown, Telangana. His longstanding muse is the sensuous and voluptuous women who are usually depicted with their omnipresent red bindis, turmeric on their foreheads, bright bangles and colourful sarees that highlight their dusky skin. He always uses rich primary colours like red, saffron, orange and green which are essentially Indian colurs as he feels a mix of any two colours is not natural as they don’t exist in our surroundings. Vaikuntam’s art has strength and vibrancy much like the way he likes to portray the Indian woman.
