Although Jogen has used oils, his forte is painting in ink, water colour and pastel. The majority of his artworks feature unbroken, meandering lines in ink and pastel where he explores the soft curves and angularities of contorted bodies. Jogen frequently uses the tool of cross hatching to achieve variations in the tone and texture of his artworks. He prefers using black ink, as it brings out the darkness that he associates with life itself. Chowdhury is fascinated by history, society and politics and his paintings often reflect an intractable solitude and melancholy.
